Papua New Guinea
My best friend, Blake Ortner, and I led a diving trip to Papua New Guinea in September 1999 . We stayed on Mike Ball's newest vessel, Paradise Sport out of Kavieng for ten days. This was a fabulous trip, and I took a huge number of pictures. I am including here only the best of them.

This is the best close-up shot of a Lionfish I've ever gotten. I was able to approach very close without the fish assuming a defensive stance, possibly because I was using a Draeger rebreather. Baungong06 9-Sep-99: Baungong Baungong was a site rich with colorful Nudibranchs. Here is a particuarly nice, though unidentified, specimen. Baungong13 9-Sep-99: Another unidentified Nudibranch at Baungong Baungong. Baungong02 9-Sep-99: And another Nudibranch at Baungong Baungong. Baungong00 9-Sep-99: OK, I admit it, this wasn't taken underwater. After our dive near the village of Baungong Baungong, we went ashore to visit the village. Here, we see the village children, in awe of our digital cameras which allow them to immediately see our pictures. Chamisso02 11-Sep-99: During the night, we baited a trap for Chambered Nautilus. We caught eight of them, photographed them, and then returned them to the safety of deep water.
